WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT TULUM (THAT NO ONE ELSE WILL TELL YOU)

Tulum isn't all Instagram spots and pretty beach scenery.  There's more to this Yucatan Peninsula destination you don't see online that we're here to share so you're prepared for your trip.

I was so confused when we arrived in Tulum. The main intersection revealed a gas station and billboards. Where were the Bohemian, Instagram-worthy scenes we were accustomed to seeing online? You have to search to find them and know where they are.

There's a good amount of hidden cenotes you should visit near Tulum.  They're hard to find so it's a good idea to book a tour (we suggest some in the complete blog post) to easily locate them.

Tulum seemed like a town divided. Many parts of Tulum are like what we have come to expect, know and love in any area of Mexico we've traveled, from Baja California, to Los Cabos and beyond. So while Tulum is a hipster town it's still in the Yucatan and you should expect to see some run-down areas.

So much of what a lot of tourists enjoy about Mexico is low prices. But beware that a lot of things are pricy in Tulum. For example a smoothie at our hotel was almost $10. Restaurant dinner prices are similar to nice cities in America too.
