There are many weekend getaways from Raleigh, North Carolina. Some are less than an hour away, some are two hours away, etc. We'll take you through each option...
Option 1: ONE HOUR AWAY OR LESS FROM RALEIGH
Pinehurst
It's a one-hour drive southwest of Raleigh to get to the Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen area.
There is plenty to do at the "Home of Golf," even if you're not a golfer, from great dining, to spas, breweries, and more.
Durham is only 30 minutes north of Downtown Raleigh.
Visit American Tobacco Campus and see a minor league Durham Bulls game, eat at amazing restaurants, visit breweries, the science museum, and more.
We love a staycation there, any time.
Chapel Hill is a 45 minute drive from downtown Raleigh.
Visit to see UNC campus, walk Franklin Street with plenty of restaurants and bars, and see great murals.
Fayetteville is an hour south of Raleigh.
Most people know it as a bit of a military area, with Fort Bragg not too far away.
There's Cape Fear Botanical Garden, downtown shopping and eating, and the US Army Airborne and Special Ops. Museum
It's just a hop, skip and a jump over to Greensboro from Raleigh for a weekend getaway. The drive takes only an hour and 15 minutes.
Greensboro is a lovely place with beautiful hotels, like the Proximity Hotel (pictured below) or the Grandover resort.
Park your car downtown in Winston-Salem and walk around. They have a great downtown area!
Stay at a beautiful upscale hotel, and drink quality beer (especially utilizing our self-guided breweries tour info in Winston-Salem), and have awesome food.
Have a lovely weekend in Asheboro and its neighbor, Seagrove.
Enjoy Asheboro's great little downtown area, and the NC Zoo.
And we loved visiting the Seagrove potter's studios in the pottery capital of the United States!
This city is just outside of Charlotte, NC.
It is well known for the North Carolina Renaissance Festival and waterfront dining.
It's about a two and half hour drive from Raleigh.
Head to NC's coast and The Outer Banks for incredible beaches, lots of fun activities (including hang gliding), seafood-a-plenty, and mineral rich water.
It's easy to drive north and south along I-95 from Raleigh, North Carolina.
This is why it's simple to get to Arlington, VA, just next to Washington, DC.
Visit the Pentagon and 9-11 Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and dine at great restaurants.
Charleston and Old 96, though in two totally different directions, are in South Carolina and are good weekend getaways from Raleigh.
They're both about a five-hour drive, but Charleston is south and on the east coast. And the historic Old 96 district is southwest, south of NC's Charlotte area.
